A message from our principal lawyer, Noeline Smart:
It was my passion for social justice and equality that motivated me to pursue a career in the legal profession. Following my high school education at St Bridget’s Convent, Colombo, I moved to Australia for my higher education. In 2004 I completed my Bachelor of Laws at Monash University, Melbourne, with honours.
During my final year, I worked as a student legal adviser at Springvale Monash Legal Centre and volunteered at the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault. I found working with marginalized sectors of the community to be very personally rewarding.
I was admitted to legal practice in 2004 to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as a Barrister and Solicitor. In 2005 I was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. During the first two years of my career, I had the privilege of working in a top-tier law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright, a suburban law practice, Oates, Rennick and Associates, and a non-profit organization, the Uniting Church in Australia. These experiences inspired me, taught me and drove me to seek a more challenging and independent path in legal practice. In 2005 I set up my own firm, Sky Legal.
As a lawyer and a registered migration agent, I was able to offer my clients expertise in a number of areas such as migration, property, commercial and criminal work. In those first years, I faced many challenges which I overcame and used to mold and shape the practice today.
After more than ten years’ experience with the practice, I am more enthusiastic than ever about understanding my clients’ needs, hearing their problems and using my knowledge and resources to achieve a successful outcome for their situation.
Being a boutique law firm means our clients have access to the same high standards of legal service as they would with a ‘big law firm’ without the ‘big law firm’ price-tag. Clients can also be assured of being looked after by a small dedicated team who will treat their problems with empathy and commitment.
We do not work on ‘billable time’ but offer our clients fixed-fee agreements and, in some cases, no-win, no-fee agreements.
Thank you for visiting our website and we look forward to assisting you with your future legal requirements.
